Harmeet Basur left his job as an engineer to pursue his passion in performing and visual arts, which led to filmmaking and cinematography.

Harmeet, as a Director of Photography, has shot feature films Hum Saya (Neighbours-MUBI) in Afghanistan and Mantra in India (Amazon Prime Video). He has been cinematographer/DP for award-winning documentaries on social change, human interest, wildlife, and the environment, such as No Problem, India's daughter, Looking for Sultan and 3 seconds divorce as well as short films like Here and Away and Villari. Harmeet has also collaborated with artists on video art, installations and experimental films. His film, 'Chasing the light', made during COVID lockdown, won the Gold Award at the PSBT Film Challenge 2020-21.

Recent projects include the documentary She rises up by Sky Films Inc., US, shot in Senegal, Peru and Sri Lanka; the series Earth Matters with Mike Pandey; and a short film Apolitical starring Adil Hussain.

Harmeet has been associated with projects for BBC UK, PBS US, Discovery channel, National Geographic Channel, Disney, VH1, CNBC UK, Star TV, Channel News Asia and France 24 as well as with organisations like WWF( World Wildlife Fund), UNESCO, UNDP, UNICEF, TERI, Help Age and Magic Bus.

As a freelance photographer he has worked on various projects with Non-profits, Newspapers and Magazines. He has shot Publicity and Production still for ‘Opium War’ -a film by Siddiq Barmak in Afghanistan. His photographs have been published in Time Magazine, The Hindu, Discover India, DNA and in Timeri N. Murari's book -The Taliban Cricket Club.

Harmeet has taught for two years at the Institute of Film and Television, Rai University and conducted a three months training in TV programming, in Kabul, Afghanistan as part of the UNESCO project. He has been a guest facility at I.P. University and conducting workshops as part of the Greenhub fellowship with the youth from remote areas and marginalised communities.

In his early days, he worked as a Facilitator & Resource person in Centre for Education and Voluntary Action (CEVA)- Chandigarh, for various participatory research projects; community programs, media campaigns and sensitisation programs with children and women.

He has conducted and directed workshops in Community Theatre with school children, young people, school management and women activists.

Harmeet has performed in theatre productions including Akh Di Dehleez, directed by G.S. Chani  and choreographed by Navtej Johar at the International Festival of Theatre and Dance, Lahore, Pakistan and Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit under the aegis of  Alliance Francaise’s Theatre de Poche.

His work has taken him across the globe, from Afghanistan to New Zealand, Bangladesh to Sweden, Kenya to Peru, where he has had the opportunity to interact with diverse communities and immerse himself in different cultures.

In his spare time, he pursues his passion for birding.
